About The Hong Kong Allergy Association

The Hong Kong Allergy Association, Allergy HK in short, is a charitable non-profit organization and was established in 2008. We concern about eczema, food allergy, and other allergy problem in terms of medication, education, daily needs etc.
We raise allergy awareness in the society; give accurate and up-to-date information to people with allergies in order to help them and their families to live a quality life.
We hold public talks, group sharing meeting, publish educational publication and strive for rights and interests for patients to the government.

What is Allergy?

An allergy is an inflammatory response after a person's immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances in the environment.
When an allergic person encounters an allergen, his or her immune system will create antibodies against it and the antibodies will trigger the body to create powerful chemical, which causes the allergic reaction. These include skin rashes, wheezing, vomiting, eyes watering or nose running. For serious cases, anaphylaxis or swelling of the gastrointestinal tract may occur, which can be deadly.

Common allergens, includes egg white, peanuts, milk, dust mite, pollen, wheat, soy, insects, seafood etc.

 

Food Allergy

Food allergy distresses quite a lot of people. For people with serious food allergy may die from it. And they also tend to have more allergy disorder than other patients.
Some common food allergen includes eggs, Peanuts, milk, seafood, wheat etc.
Food allergy symptoms can be varied. The most common ones are: Itchiness, swelling, hives, eczema Some of these symptoms can be light but some of them can be fatal when they get serious.

Eczema

Eczema is the inflammation of the epidermis, which will cause itchiness, blister, redness and swelling. It will also ooze and cause dryness of the skin and lead to crusting. The cause of eczema includes contacting or rubbing against substance, an allergic reaction with some kinds of food, drug or fungus, etc.
Although eczema is difficult to cure, as long as the skin cae is properly done and gives proper treatment, it can be well managed. Avoiding the allergens is the best preventions.

 

Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammation of the nose triggered by aeroallergens like dust, dust mites, animal dander or irritation from air pollutant.
If you have symptom like itching nose and eyes, runny nose, and watery eyes, frequently nose blockage, sneezing and disturbed sleep, and in a prolonged or repeated occurrence; you may have allergic rhinitis.
