Rhinitis

Allergic Rhinitis is  an irritation and inflammation of some internal areas of the nose caused by allergens. They can be dust, dust mite, animal dander or pollutants in the air and so on. Allergic rhinitis is affecting daily lives of many people. In Hong Kong, 1 in 4 people are suffering from rhinitis.

If you have symptoms listed below:

  • Sneezing over and over again
  • A runny nose.
  • A tickle in your throat or coughing caused by postnasal drip.
  • Watery, itchy eyes.
  • Itchy ears, nose, and throat
  • poor sleeping quality

you might have rhinitis. Rhinitis can affect your study, work, daily lives or even trigger other disease. so you should see your doctor to have a check up as soon as possible.

Treatment

For mild cases, patients can use anti-histamine to relief the symptoms. Under doctors' prescription, patients can use steroid nasal spray. Since these steroid nasal spray is not used in large amount and is only used in certain area, the side-effects are limited. However, please note that steroid nasal spray is not used to stop your nose from running nor to clear your stuffy nose. Its main purpose is to control the inflammation, therefore do not use it too frequently. At the same time, do not stop using it if you think it does not work. You should use it as your doctor has advised.
